Here's a Change: A Mormon in the News Who Isn't Mitt Romney

I don't know why, but this sort of thing really gets me excited. Maybe it's because I'm a "diversity for diversity's sake" kind of guy; or, maybe it's just that finally we'll get some good music at church (sorry dan).

Haha... when was the last time you had to listen to an EFY song in church? (wait, don't answer that)

You had me excited about the "Mormon in the News" line -- until I saw that it was Ms. Knight. Well, I guess it's either one or the other.

"It was not until 1978, under prophet Spencer W. Kimball, that the Mormon Church admitted blacks into full membership, allowing them to hold the priesthood, marry in the temple and receive the same privileges as other members. "

This is the first I've heard that. I mean, of course I've heard about the priesthood being extended to black men in 1978 but I've never heard-- here on the Bloggernacle or anywhere else-- that they weren't allowed to be married in the temple and whatever else is covered under "the same privileges as other members." Is this an over-statement on the writer's part?

Meaning, if it's not Mitt, it's Gladys -- who seem to be the only 'famous' Mormons these days.

Hmm.. interesting. I'm good friends with their cousin. I wonder how awkward that conversation will be at the family reunions... multiple people divertly over-focused on their jello and funeral potatoes.

And my first thought, Sheldon, at your earlier post: "My Little Buttercup..."
