New Look

Fellow bloggers -- I thought we could use a makeover. I'm no computer genius, nor do I claim any aesthetic authority over online color-schemes. However, I thought I'd take a stab at livening up our blogger. I added a couple of links on the side (nothing official, of course). If anybody has any good ideas, go ahead and make them. If you'd like to add more links (or change the current ones) go to the bottom of the template code and follow the directions. If anybody is really attached to the old "Blue Minima" style, we can revert back with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Looks good. But you should know that at least on my screen, your links are not showing up on the right hand side of the screen next to the posting field, but rather on the very bottom-right side of the screen starting where the posting field ends. Of course, this might be how you want it, but just in case. . . .

Doug, i am a computer moron (and many readers would probably have a longer list of areas in which I am a moron), so I want to ask if there is any way to show the number of comments on each post, as the "Blue Minima" Style did immediately before the comments begin? If so, that would be great for me. I pretty much casually remember the numbers, so if a discussion I am interested in grows in numbers of comments, I scroll down; if not, I move on. Thanks, Jason.

My display also shows the list of contributors and links at the very bottom-right, below the entries, rather than at the top-right of the sidebar. FWIW, I kinda liked the prior color scheme and format better, but I'm hardly the last word on colors or templates.

I'm with Dave---I liked the blue format better. Both, however, are big improvements over our original.

Jason -- Good call. I made the change. As for the links appearing at the bottom right, I don't know why that is - everything appears normal on my screen. I assume our display settings are different (the code is the obviously the same).

As for overall design and structure, I'm ambivalent. I have to admit, even if we were to come up with some cool links for our page - which may be pointless (I've never clicked on the links at other blogs) -- we have so many contributors that you have to scroll down to see the links, even when the blog displays properly. I was just trying to shake things up, for no apparent reason.

Thanks for posting the "Cool Office Games" link. It's very appreciated since I fall into the "working at a job that could be done by a brain-damaged monkey" category that I outlined earlier.

Pssssst ... have you considered switching to Wordpress? Everyone's doing it. :)

I like the new color-scheme and layout. I think it's better than the old one... but that's just my opinion.

On the comments page, it might help if there were some kind of dividing line or color change between one comment to another. In the current format they appear to run together.

I like the new format better. I think that it is more colorful and catchy. And I LOVE the game link - it has made hours of work pass by.

The informal poll for LYMA's design turned our 9 whole votes (looks like our placement on Dave's top 12 didn't bring a drastic influx in traffic). For the time being, I'm going to leave the design alone, but any of you are more than welcome to change it back if you so desire.
